Photography’s critical tradition has directed its attention to the photograph: what it means, what it fails to evidence, what it cannot honestly represent. This work asks not what photography has failed to do, but how the indexicality of an encounter can materialize through photography without resolving into a photograph.

Photography is better understood as a set of transferable operations (fixation, survey, and compression) than as a technology defined by its output. These operations predate the camera and exceed it. Separated from the apparatus, they do not produce photographs. They produce something made by photographic logic rather than photographic technology, and that distinction opens a space the medium has not previously occupied.

My Holy Mountain
With Vinzenz Aubry

Something holy announces itself within my body. I spit it out. It’s still there. I spit again, and again, and I keep spitting until it’s all gone. The vestige of digestion, absorption, and decay becomes my own frozen heaven.
